Good Friday

Good Friday Friends:

Today is Good Friday and this is a very special day!! We celebrate this day as the day that Jesus Christ paid the price for our sins by choosing to lay down his life as a sacrifice, and was crucified on a wooden cross. You see, you never will be able to make it into heaven by being a "good person." Being good just isn't good enough BUT believing that JESUS died for our sins and accepting His free gift of grace is good enough!!! This is by far the most important thing that I would ever share with you in this blog. I would like for all of you know Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour and get to go to Heaven!!!

Today we are also going to talk about meat. Obviously meat is not a carb, it is protein and fat. We do need to be careful and not overdo meats because they are potentially fattening. Portion control is the golden rule concerning meats. There are different ways to measure a proper size portion, but the one that I like to use is that it should be no larger than the size of the palm of your hand. It's pretty easy to estimate for everyone. Portion control is especially important with beef products with marbled fat. So when you go out to a restaurant to eat your steak, petite ones only... That includes the guys as well. Likewise for hamburger make it palm size and please go with the lowest fat content possible. Hey how about going for a garden burger with a slice of fat free cheese on it instead. In any case you should limit your beef to 2-3 servings per week!!!

There are better meat choices than beef that you are allowed to eat more often. Venison, Elk, Turkey, Skinless chicken, and fish are my favs. Baked or broiled is best and you would be using your brain well if you avoid the breaded and deep fat fried kinds of these foods. Especially that goes for fried chicken, I know we love it, but that skin holds the majority of the fat and that just has to go into the trash can and not in your stomach!!

Now about Hot dogs, franks and brats. You probably already know that they will take you instantly into the danger zone. If you are at a picnic and just have to have a hot dog, ladies just cut one in half and share the other half with another poor soul. Guys have 1, but make that your ABSOLUTE limit. It's the 2,3, or even dare I say 4 of those bad boys that are absolutely horrible for you and will kill your green advantage that you have been working so hard for. Also there is good news here. Go for the Turkey Kielbasa instead, as they are much better for you. Again, this is another example of a small palate change that will result in huge results in your favor.
