Audience of One?

OK so thank you Marilyn: You may be my audience of one, but I doubt it.... I will keep going.

So tonite I would like to give you some insight for when you go out for Mexican. There is quite a bit of not so very kind things available there. But if you are tenacious and stick to your guns, you can get out of the place with little or no damage.

First off they want to give you those chips and salsa and here lies your first challenge. You are usually very hungry and they are calling out to you, they will just get airborne and fly into your stomach if you don't exercise some self control. The salsa is good and good for you, but those chips will go directly to your fatty deposits. So what I do is CHOOSE to limit the # of chips to 3. I make it a spiritual thing and say 1 for the Father, 1 for the Son and 1 for the Holy Ghost. I load em with as much salsa as they can possibly hold and then stop until the main course arrives.

Next, I have all ready decided that I'm either going to get a tostada or a taco salad before I even begin to look at a menu. I feel by making this decision in advance, I will not be tempted to get something harmful on the menu. I also know that at the end of the meal I am very satisfied with my choice, so I'm not losing out at all. I choose chicken over shredded beef or hamburger. I get the guacamole and just love it. The guac is actually very good for you in spite of what others may say about its high fat content. Now sour cream, I really love it but to be your very best you should not go for this item. You should also leave the taco shell or the tortilla base alone, but if you want to cheat a little and eat a taste or 2 that's OK .

So when you leave the place you will have probably about 4 carbs worth on board and be just fine. Again remember water is your drink and drink lots of it with your meal.

Another pearl of wisdom I learned from the diabetes class is when you are eating at home, you need to get to a place where you are focusing on the food you are eating and only do that alone. No multi-tasking i.e. computer, TV or reading the paper.

I personally didn't pay much attention to this during my weight loss adventure, but the dietitian in the class made a very big deal about it and said that some people really tend to overeat when multitasking because they can't even remember if they ate at all. So if she is keen on that, I think that this could also be helpful for some of you as well. This may be very difficult for some of you, but if you are struggling with reducing your portion size and being satiated, you should really try to be good about doing this.

Tomorrow I'm on duty at the Fire Station and its getting difficult to blog and do my job also so I will not be making a post. Look for me again on Saturday.
