Open Heart Surgery

I just got back from visiting a very close friend in the hospital. She ended up having open heart surgery that was totally unexpected.

She had only vague symptoms of some fatigue and went to the doctor. They did a stress test that was inconclusive, so he referred her to a cardiologist and they finally came to the decision to go ahead and do an angiogram just to see how her coronary arteries were looking.

In the cath lab they found that all 4 of her arteries were occluded over 90% and they needed to do bypass surgery because they couldn't fit any stents in place. Fortunately all of this was discovered before she actually had a heart attack so she has no heart muscle damage.

We are so thankful because if this had not been discovered she easily could have had a life ending infarction. Praise God that her family doctor was aggressive to not let the vague symptoms stop him from ordering further tests.

Life is so uncertain. So our life choices are important. Loving God, loving others, taking good care of yourself, building margin in health fitness and finances are all areas where we need to pay attention and be wise to do the best that we possibly can.
