Yea we're talking inspiration here.
I just got the progress report from my Marathon Granny friend.
She did the Newport marathon over the weekend. She reported that it was just fantastic. She was able to run the whole way, the scenery was beautiful and she completed it in 5 hours and some change.
Now she can check off that marathon thing from her bucket to do list.
She trained well for this event by going on long runs every Saturday around 18 miles worth. That will certainly do some great things for you in a cardiovascular perspective.
I would not recommend that you all go out and run 18 miles this Saturday, but if you get off the couch and get out there and start running or even walking you will be doing yourself a big favor.
Way to go Grandma Joan!!!
I lost 50 lbs by just learning how to eat right and excercising. Im 54 years old and in about the best shape of my life. I'm a Paramedic Firefighter by trade, but I would like to use this blog to "life coach" others to conquer the battle of the bulge.
About Me
- Bob Elliott
- I've tried other diets and only had temporary results... Yes I tried the low fat one and "the zone" but now I have just stepped out on my own independent quest. This coupled with the fact that my doctor said I was borderline diabetic and needed to start taking Metformin has motivated me to take better care of myself for life. My peak weight was 209 and my current weight is 158. I would like to share with you how I did it and how you can do it too!!!
Sincere congratulations to Joan for running the Newport Marathon's full 26.2 especially if her long training runs were limited to 18 miles.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt Joan and I crossed paths on the out-and-back Newport course. At 54 I'd trained hard to clock 3:21:06 and qualify for Boston.
I agree with you that most Americans both young and old would do well to get off their couches and jog or even walk 20 to 25 miles a week. They'd find that things really do work out when we do.
